28 September 2014

PLEASE PRAY for the repose of the soul of Nuala Mulhern, who died recently.

Goodbye: As part of my packing-up process, I came across the list of priests that have served in St Joseph’s parish since John Robertson was appointed in 1867. Many of those priests only stayed a very short time – maybe it is something to do with living in the Thames Valley! The thing that struck me was during all that time St Joseph’s has been a strong and energetic parish. This has been sometimes because of the good leadership of the priests, and at other times the parish has flourished in spite of whoever was the priest.

The small congregation of those early days were keen that they would have a church that they could be proud of and that the parish would play its part in making a contribution to the life of Maidenhead. We owe a great deal of gratitude to all those who have gone before us. We would all hope that these early ideals have continued to motivate the life of the parish.

It has been my privilege to have served as your parish priest for the past fifteen years. It is for you to judge how you feel those years have gone. I have done some work but there is more to be done and I know that you will welcome and give full support to Fr John Lee as he begins his ministry here in St Joseph’s. For my part, I leave with gratitude for the blessings that have been mine. I will carry you deep in my heart and you will always be in my prayers. I ask you, as I move on, to keep me in your prayers.

We say goodbye to Maggie and thank her for her time as secretary in St Joseph’s and also for her kindness and efficiency. We welcome Carolyn Bell as new secretary and I am sure that you will give her the same support as previous secretaries in the past.
